Son of François Pinault, long-term sponsor of Stade Rennais and majority shareholder of the club since 1998, François-Henri Pinault took over from his father during 2017. After some difficult months at the club in terms of results, he named Olivier Létang as Rennes President in November 2017 in place of René Ruello. The club enjoyed an upturn in fortunes, with qualification for European competition as soon as May 2018, and then a record-breaking 2018/2019 season where they got as far as the last 16 of the Europa League, and in particular lifted the French Cup against the untouchable Paris Saint Germain in the Final, a title which Rennes fans had been waiting 48 years to celebrate.
