Gérard Dimier was President of Stade Rennais Football Club from June 1979 to January 1987. When he took over the management of the club, Rennes were in dire financial straits, and it was under Dimier's stewardship that Rennes got things back on an even keel, and restored the club's image. As the founding member of the rescue committee at Stade Rennais, he brought in Jean Vincent in the role of First Team Manager in 1982, and Vincent led Rennes back to the First Division as Second Division champions in 1983. Dimier's spell as President came to an end in 1987, after Rennes suffered relegation back to the second tier of French football.
