In June 2013, Stade Rennais parted company with its General Manager of 11 years, Pierre Dréossi. The role of General Manager disappeared on the new org chart, as the club searched for a strong candidate to take care of recruitment. The choice of the Pinault family was to bring in Jean-Luc Buisine. Having worked wonders at Lille, where he played a major part in their title winning season in 2011, thanks to inspired signings such as Landreau, Rami, Balmont, Mavuba or Gervinho, he then worked at Monaco, who he helped to achieve promotion back to the top flight. It was from Monaco that Rennes hired Buisine, to make him the Director of Recruitment, with new First Team Manager Philippe Montanier having exclusive control of the playing side. During his first press conference when he was presented to the media, Buisine said that it would be the only time when he would speak publicly at Stade Rennais. When his tenure at Rennes was brought to an end in June 2019, he had been true to his word. His work took place in the shadows, he scoured the world to bring in players with very different and varied profiles to the Rennes First Team. In terms of his successes, you could list Grosicki, Toivonen, Bourigeaud, Sarr, Khazri, Prcic, Fernandes, Traoré, Bensebaini, André, Ntep, Mexer, who you could stack against the flops such as Brüls, Hosiner, Sylla, Erasmus, Sakho, Lenjani, Cavaré ou Habibou.
