Tested by Antonetti and his staff in the Spring of 2011, Abdoulaye Sané signed for 3 years with Stade Rennais in the July of the same year. This tall and pacy striker was one of a long line of gambles by the club to find future stars in the role of attacker, along with those of Diarra and Qasmi. Aged just 18, and after several appearances in the Senegalese First Division with AS Douanes, Sané began his time in Rennes with the Reserve team squad. After a first appearance in the Cup at Nice in 2012, he took advantage of the departures of Kembo-Ekoko, Boukari and Hadji to become a player used in attacking rotation by the Manager. In 2012/2013, he made 17 appearances in the First Team before being dropped from the group at the end of the season. In the following Summer, Montanier didn’t want him either, so he was loaned to Laval in Ligue 2 in 2013. After two seasons of inaction, he bounced back in the 2015/2016 season with the Reserve team, who achieved promotion to CFA (French 4th Division), and he also scored 15 goals in the process. At the end of his contract, he signed for Parisian club Red Star in Ligue 2 on 26th July 2016.
