Adrien Hunou arrived from the French National Football Centre in Clairefontaine in 2010, and quickly settled in well at the club. U18 French international, he was regularly called up to train with the First Team squad in the 2012/2013 season. In 2012, he was named best Academy player, and made his first appearance on the team-sheet in a senior match in Ligue 1 on 11th May 2013 at Valenciennes. On 2nd December 2013, he signed his first professional contract with Stade Rennais. After 20 appearances under Philippe Montanier in the 2013/2014 season, he was loaned to Clermont in November 2014. His loan spell was extended by a further year after preseason on 26th August 2015. When he returned to Rennes, he managed to get the nod from Manager Gourcuff in the Summer of 2016, and scored his first goal for Rennes against Marseille. On 23rd November 2016, he extended his contract for three more seasons with the Red and Blacks. Repositioned as a centre forward by Sabri Lamouchi in the Spring of 2018, he was a key man in Stade Rennais’ qualification for the Europa League, with a prolific goalscoring run. At the end of an amazingly prolific year in 2019 with 18 goals, he renewed his contract for a further three years on 19th December 2019. At the end of a 2019/2020 season cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in the run-up to the 2020/2021 season, Hunou saw his game-time shrink with the additional competition of new recruits Guirassy and Terrier. Considered as a Super-Sub, he would still play a part in some of the matches in Stade Rennais' first-ever venture into the Champions League. On 16th December 2020, he would score his last (winning) goal with the Red and Blacks against Marseille in a 2-1 victory at Roazhon Park. With his lack of opportunities in the last few months of his adventure with Rennes, he chose to sign on the 23rd April 2021 with Minnesota United to start a new challenge in the MLS. After 11 seasons spent with Stade Rennais FC, this loyal striker would leave his mark on the club, scoring 36 goals in 160 appearances.
