Full-back Alain Le Roulley hailed from Normandy, and he started his playing career in Amateur football in his hometown, Caen. He would play there for several seasons, with a short spell of a few months in Boulogne, before arriving at Stade Rennais for the 1965/1966 season. He would be the understudy to Louis Cardiet during his first campaign with the club, and he saw relatively little action in that time. He had to wait until 23rd March 1966 and the Round of 16 replay in the French Cup against Reims to make his First Team debut in the starting line-up. In that season, he would make just three appearances in total, and only one the following year. In the 1967/1968 season, he would gain some more regular game-time, playing at right-back in the opening five league fixtures. After that, he was replaced by Jazdyck and then Lavaud, and had to return to play in the Reserves. He left Rennes at the end of another disappointing season, finishing his career in his native region with the club Lisieux.
