Aldo KALULU

Stade Rennais sold Paul-Georges Ntep to Wolfsburg on 9th January 2017. On the same day, Aldo Kalulu arrived on loan without a buyout clause from Lyon. This pint-sized versatile midfielder was both bright and puzzling in equal measure. His mission was to brighten up the Rennes attack for a few months. In the absence of Giovanni Sio, who had left to play in the African Cup of Nations, Kalulu made numerous starts as centre-forward. Whilst his performances were honourable, he never posed a real threat. As soon as Sio returned, he disappeared from the starting line-up, and – eventually - from the team-sheet. In the end, Kalulu made 11 appearances, of which 5 were in the starting line-up, in a five-month loan spell, which never got off the ground, and didn’t last long in the memory.
