A player who was appreciated by Gourcuff, his former Manager at Lorient, Arnaud Le Lan signed for Stade Rennas FC at the beginning of 2002, but didn’t actually end up joining them until the June of that year. In the meantime, Gourcuff was sacked at Rennes, and Le Lan won the French Cup Final against Bastia (1-0). Faced with a new boss, Bergeroo, who didn’t know him, and a new 3-5-2 formation which didn’t really suit his style of play, Le Lan took a long time to settle in with his new club. The arrival of Vahid after 10 games gave him the opportunity to get a spot in the starting line-up up to the end of the season. In 2003/2004, with Bölöni as Manager, the competition from Vignal didn’t last long, owing to Le Lan’s outstanding combativity. However in 2004/2005, the player from Morbihan was to see Jeunechamp preferred to him (even though Jeunechamp was mainly a midfielder) and his replacement’s understanding with Monterrubio worked wonders on the left flank. In 2005, Le Lan continued his tour of Brittany at Guingamp, before ending his career where it had all started for him, in Lorient.
