Although a member of the successful Gambardella Cup (French FA Youth Cup) squad in 2003, Aurélien Montaroup never managed to dislodge first-choice left-back Fabien Dugaz at Rennes. In spite of this, he stayed in Brittany for another two years, and was a regular member of the Reserves in CFA (French 4th Division). In the absence of a professional contract offer, he left the club to join Orléans to try and get his career up-and-running. After a convincing season in the CFA side, he joined Créteil in Ligue 2, but left the club on bad terms with his bosses after just four months. After finding his feet again at La Vitréenne, his career finally took off in Belorus. With Dynamo Minsk, he became one of the best full-backs in his league, and played with a top team.
