Looking for a player who could complete the squad down the flanks, Stade Rennais acquired Benjamin André in the Summer of 2014. Capable of playing on the left or the right side, as a full back or midfielder, Benjamin André arrived on a free at the end of his contract with AC Ajaccio, for whom he had scored when his team last played Rennes at the beginning of 2014. As the months went by, he became a central midfielder, and improved steadily over two seasons. In 2016/2017 he had an excellent first half of the season under Christian Gourcuff, before going off the boil somewhat in the second half. Nevertheless, he extended his contract at the club on 30th June 2017 for five years until 2022. He became captain of the team with Romain Danzé’s dwindling game time, and it was he who lifted the French Cup on 27th April 2019 at the end of a season which was also notable for the Last 16 clash with Arsenal in the Europa League. Greatly admired by all who love the club, he was to achieve an even bigger dream of playing in the Champions League, signing for Lille on 17th July 2019 for the sum of 8 Million Euros.
