During the Summer of 1991, Stade Rennais signed Blaz Sliskovic from Mulhouse. The Yugoslavian attacking midfielder had enjoyed a successful season in Alsace after two failed spells at Marseille and Lens. However, the player named best in his country in 1985 struggled to make a difference on the left side of Rennes’ attack, or in support of the strikers. (Rennes had the worst goalscoring record in the league, managing on 25 goals in the season.) After 26 matches, of which 16 were in the starting line-up, and without a single goal to his name, he left the club, who had been relegated to the Second Division, by the back-door, to join Pescara in Italy. He would go on to represent his country of Bosnia at international level.
