Freshly promoted to the First Division in 1994, Stade Rennais were unable to rely on their Bulgarian defender Nikolai Iliev, out with a long-term injury. The management at Rennes decided to recruit Brian Jensen as a wildcard in December 1994 from Brøndby. The Danish international defender quickly established himself in the centre-back pairing with Skipper Denis. Faultless for 6 months, and appreciated by his manager Le Milinaire, he had his contract extended for a further 3 seasons. In the 1995/1996 season, the competition for places hotted up with the arrival of Cyprien, but the versatility of the Danish defender enabled him to play 27 matches at centre-back or left-back. In the 1996/1997 season, he was progressively pushed out of Colleu’s plans by the new arrivals of Papura, Smith and the blossoming talent of youngster Lassissi. He only managed to regain his place in the starting line-up for the last 8 games of the season. In June 1997, he signed for Cannes, where he stayed for a brief spell, before returning home to Denmark to re-join his former club.
