Cédric Hountondji arrived at Stade Rennais FC in 2009, having completed his pre-training spell in Châteauroux. The central defender of Hispano-Benin origin was born in Toulouse. From the beginning of his career, his impressive height 1.95m wasn’t his only weapon. He was also adept with his distribution, and joined the professional squad for the first time in July 2013 under the Manager Philippe Montanier. In his promising debut season, he made 20 appearances and even scored two goals. He was invited to continue his progression on loan for a season at Châteauroux in the 2014/2015 season, but an uninspiring loan spell wasn’t sufficient to convince the coaching staff at Rennes, and he was sent out on loan once more to Auxerre on 31st August 2015. At the end of a full season, Hountondji didn’t return to Rennes, and was transferred to GFC Ajaccio.
