A huge prospect at the club during his apprenticeship at Stade Rennais’ Academy, Cédric Vanoukia was unable to fulfil his potential and the promise of a career at the highest level. After a season in the Reserves in CFA (French 4th Division) in 2000/2001, the former junior international signed for Stade Brestois, where he discovered National (French 3rd Division). That’s where he developed a friendship with a certain Franck Ribery, who would play in a World Cup final three years later against Italy. After spells with Cannes and La Vitréenne, Vanoukia would cross paths once against with his hometown club, Stade Rennais in the French Cup in 2009/2010. Playing for Quevilly, he eliminated his former team in the Last 16 of the competition. Worse still for the Red and Blacks, lightning was to strike twice. In the French Cup Semi-Final in 2012, Quevilly knocked Rennes out of the cup yet again, this time at the d’Ornano Stadium in Caen. He was then forced to hang up his boots at the beginning of 2014 owing to heart problems. In June 2015, he returned to Stade Rennais to coach the youngsters.
