Christian Brüls joined Stade Rennais in July 2014 from K A A Gent in Belgium. Having already had experience in Belgium, Holland and Turkey, this Belgian midfielder rediscovered Ligue 1 after a good loan spell at Nice in 2013/2014. Despite having fractured a toe, he successfully passed his medical in Rennes and signed on a three-year deal. After a meagre 12 appearances for the Red and Blacks, and despite several assists during a disappointing season, he was cut from the group owing the personnel choices of the manager at the end of that season. In the summer months of 2015, Brüls joined the “Loft” of unwanted players, and joined Standard Liège on the 18th August. After this inconclusive trial, he returned to the club, but never figured in Christian Gourcuff’s plans. On 31st January, he returned to his original club in Eupen after just 12 appearances in two-and-a-half years of his contract in Brittany.
