Arriving directly from his native Angola, Christian Yulu joined Stade Rennais’ Reserve team in 2000. Regularly picked to play alongside Luis Fabiano or Mickaël Citony, he only showed his qualities of his pace and incisive play intermittently. When he arrived in 2001, Christian Gourcuff wasn’t particularly interested in the Angolan striker. Yulu left Rennes at the end of the 2001/2002 to go on trial in England. He was able to convince the management at Coventry City to offer him a year’s contract to play in the First Division. He then disappeared off the radar in professional football, and had a spell at Châteaubriant before returning to Angola.
