On 28th November 1998, Christophe Le Roux’s history with Stade Rennais FC begins. After scoring the winning goal for Nantes in a 3-2 win for the Canaries, Le Roux went on to make a name for himself at the Route de Lorient Stadium. Just five weeks later, he started for Rennes in the League Cup. He became the key man in Le Guen’s game plan, along with Cissé, Bigné and Grégoire, and was often decisive, either with his goals, or with assists. He had an excellent season with the Bretons, (finishing 5th in the league), Le Roux’s technical ability was appreciated in every game. In the 1999/2000 season, scoring 8 goals, he was above the rest, as the team paid a high price for the Intertoto Cup run. In spite of being an undisputed first-choice player in midfield, the native of Lorient did not have his contract renewed at the end of the season 2001/2002 by boss Gourcuff as he was deemed to be too old. Le Roux continued his tour of the West’s clubs, joining Guingamp, for whom he scored against Rennes.
