Newly-promoted to Division 1, Stade Rennais FC signed 2 players from the Swiss national team just after the 1994 World Cup: Grassi and Christophe Ohrel. Only loaned by Servette in Geneva, Ohrel went straight into the starting line-up of Le Milinaire. Born in Strasbourg, the French-Swiss player was a hard-working midfielder who quickly found his feet, working alongside Huard, Gourvennec, Lambert or Thomas. He completed a full season with 37 appearances, playing a more selfless, holding role in a team which was very much attack-minded. Ohrel still scored two goals at the end of the season, in a 2-2 draw with Bastia and a 5-0 win against Caen. Despite the willingness of Rennes management to keep him, Ohrel chose to leave Brittany and return to Servette. He returned swiftly to France, however, and joined Saint-Etienne, who he had faced, ironically, in his last match as a Rennes player.
