On 23rd June 2016, Clément Chantôme signed for three seasons with Stade Rennais. He is the first major new signing for new Manager Christian Gourcuff, a few weeks after negotiations broke down with Jonas Martin. Developed at Paris Saint Germain, this versatile midfielder was the perfect fit for the style of play advocated by his boss. In his first match, at Nice, he got injured and didn’t return to action until February 2017, and struggled to find his best form before the end of the season. With only 8 appearances in a Rennes shirt, of which 7 in the starting line-up, the former France international was loaned to Lens without a buyout clause on Tuesday 8th August 2017. When he returned from his loan spell, he no longer trained with the professional squad, and cancelled his contract on 30th August 2018. On 7th September 2018, he signed for Parisian club Red Star in Ligue 2.
