Qualified for the Europa League, Stade Rennais made a real transfer coup by signing Clément Grenier. The French international signed for Rennes on 24th July 2018 from Guingamp. The attacking, and box-to-box midfielder, who was developed at Lyon, was brought in to add a bit of flair to a midfield which has been shorn of Gourcuff and Prcic, who had left in the close season. His first season at Rennes would prove to be a real success, making 48 appearances, of which 33 came in the league. He also made a telling contribution to the Red and Blacks' excellent Europa League run, scoring the crucial goal in an away win at Jablonec which pushed them towards a historic qualification from the group stage. He was also a key part of the side which won the French Cup in 2019. In the 2019/2020 season, his game time diminished with competition, injuries and a curtailed season owing to COVID-19 playing a major part in that. He made just 17 appearances. In the face of rumours of an exit from Roazhon Park at the beginning of the 2020/2021 season, he ended up staying put with Rennes, but he was frozen out of the First-Team picture for the opening weeks. After that, he was brought back into the squad, alternating between starts and spells on the bench. In the end, it would prove to be an awkward time for Grenier, who nonetheless managed to make 28 appearances, scoring four goals in that time. His last game for Rennes came in a substitute's appearance against Nîmes, where he came on for the last quarter of an hour. His final statistics at the club were 9 goals in 93 matches for Stade Rennais over three seasons. Out of contract with the Red and Blacks, he left the club at the end of the 2020/2021 season. On 3rd March 2022, he finally found a new club, signing for Majorca in the Spanish league.
