Born in 1996, Cyriack Garel was in direct competition with Romain Cagnon and Maxime Pattier at the Stade Rennais Academy. Hampered by an injury in 2013, he was released by the club, and signed amateur forms at Reims. As 4th choice goalkeeper, he took advantage of a selection crisis for the away game at Metz on 27th September 2014 to be named on the team sheet. After 3rd choice keeper Sacha Bastien went off injured after just 22 minutes, Garel made an unexpected debut in Ligue 1. Despite his side’s defeat, Garel put in a good display for this baptism of fire in the top flight.
