In May 1997, Rennes were fighting for survival in a match against Toulouse on the 34th and last matchday of the season in the First Division. During this match, Arribagé (at the time a defender with Toulouse) just missed out on giving his side the lead, which would have condemned Rennes to almost certain relegation to the Second Division. But fate, and Kaba Diawara, had other things in mind. A month later, he arrived in Brittany. At first, he was forced to sit out a suspension after testing positive for Nandrolone. His debut at Bordeaux ended in a heavy 0-4 defeat. Team Captain for 6 seasons, he was known for his strong aerial game, and his impeccable positional sense. Scoring 15 goals, most of which came from headers, and at home, he came full circle after scoring in a big 4-0 over Montpellier, and returned to his former club, Toulouse, where he deprived Stade Rennais a place in the Champions League on the last day of the 2006/2007 season.
