Originally from the Val d'Oise region near Paris, Dominique Vaast started his professional playing days with Paris side Red Star, playing in the French Second Division at the time. He played in goal, but he was rarely called upon in his first season, playing only three matches. In his second season, the club declared itself bankrupt, and dropped into Division d'Honneur playing in amateur football. Here he was given the chance as first-choice goalkeeper. In 1979, Stade Rennais took him on in the rôle of understudy at first, but he ended up getting more and more game time as time wore on in his second season with the Red and Blacks. But with stiff competition from Dusé, he returned to the bench in his last two seasons, before leaving the club in 1983, having won the Division 2 league title. His professional career ended at that point, but he went on to play for Paris FC in the Fourth Division up until 1988, before taking on coaching rôles in the Paris region with amateur clubs there.
