In spite of winning the French First Division title with FC Nantes in 1995, Eddy Capron saw his game time dwindle at the Beaujoire Stadium following the arrival of Carotti. Stade Rennais gave him the ideal opportunity to bounce back, given that Manager Guy David was searching for a player with top flight experience to lead his defence in the 1997/1998 season. Whilst he was always in the starting line-up, he saw a procession of defenders, such as Régis Le Bris, Pierre Maroselli and – notably - Youssef Rossi partnered with him. In team which relied on solidarity and commitment to avoid relegation from Division 1, Capron gave everything for this shirt, more than he had ever done playing for the Canaries (Nantes). He finally became accepted and adopted by the Rennes supporters as one of their own. The joy of the positive outcome to the season, with survival being achieved, however, proved to be short-lived for Capron, dropped to the Reserves, and not given a single minute of game time by new boss Paul Le Guen after his appointment in 1998. In the Summer of 1999, he joined promoted side Sedan.
