Emerick Darbelet arrived at Stade Rennais FC from Racing Club de France in July 1992. As a versatile striker, Darbelet had an encouraging first season in Division 2, playing 33 matches, scoring 3 goals. But in the 1993/1994 season, he suffered as a result of the blossoming talent of Sylvain Wiltord and Pierre-Yves André, and played less than 10 games in their promotion season, with Rennes returning back to the top flight. He joined Le Mans in July 1994, where he made his move permanent a year later.
