Born in Brittany, in Dinan in 1973, Eric Martin started out with Stade Rennais in the 1990-1991 season. He was unable to make the breakthrough with the Red and Blacks, however, managed a single, solitary, First-Team appearance with the pros. In March 1991, when Rennes hosted Lille (1-3 defeat), he replaced regular right-back Cyrille L'Helgoualch in the starting line-up, but was replaced after an hour. At the time, he had become the 8th youngest player to start a First Team fixture for Stade Rennais. At the end of this rather barren season, he left to play amateur football in Caen, before going on to join La Vitréenne. He would later become a manager in the Rennes area, taking charge of Gevezé and US Mordelles.
