With M’Bengue away playing for Senegal at the African Cup of National, Stade Rennais sought a full-back to take his place. In January 2015, they signed Ermir Lenjani. This left-sided defender was born in Kosovo, but played for Albania, whilst spending his entire development period in Switzerland. In November 2014, he had already experienced playing at the Route de Lorient Stadium in a friendly for his country against France (1-1). Also capable of playing on the left wing, he signed a two-and-a-half-year deal. Injured at first then sent-off, he only managed 6 appearances for Rennes before being loaned with a buyout clause to Nantes on 18th August 2015. After a good European Championships in June 2016, he returned for pre-season under Christian Gourcuff at Rennes. Gourcuff gave him two appearances as sub, and a start in 2016/2017. Unconvincing, he would never see another game in France after October 2016, and the disastrous 0-7 hammering at Monaco. He left the club at the end of his contract in the Summer of 2017.
