Having lost the combined talents of Majer, Ugochukwu and Xeka in their midfield, Stade Rennais signed Fabian Rieder on 30th August 2023 from Young Boys of Bern in Switzerland. Swiss international Rieder had played for his country in the Qatar World Cup, and the left-footer tied himself to Rennes with a deal keeping him at the club until 2027. The transfer fee was 12 Million Euros, with a potential 3 Million Euros in bonuses, a club record sale for Young Boys. After a season disrupted by injury and tactical decisions of the manager, Rieder ended up with three goals from direct free-kicks, scoring a goal every 181 minutes on average. During the 2024 European Championships in Germany, where he was playing for Switzerland, he was loaned to VfB Stuttgart on 24th June 2024, in a deal with a buyout clause worth 15 Million Euros. Having completed the preseason preparations under the stewardship of Habib Beye, and made appearances in the first three games of the 2025/2026 season for Rennes, Rieder opted to leave France on a permanent deal, signing for German First Division side Augsburg in a deal worth 8 Million Euros and 2 Million Euros potentially in Bonuses.
