Fabrice Do Marcolino was spotted at the Montaigu Tournament in 1999, whilst playing for Gabon, where he played alongside a certain Stéphane N’Guéma. He came to Stade Rennais’ Academy in the same year from Libreville. In the 2001/2002 season, he discovered the CFA (French 4th Division) and many were comparing him based on his physique and style of play to the one-and-only Shabani Nonda. On the recommendations of the Manager of the day, he signed a professional contract in the Summer of 2002. But Gourcuff was sacked and replaced by Philippe Bergeroo, who didn’t have the time to judge the worth of the Gabon centre-forward. He was loaned to Angoulême in National (French 3rd Division), went back to play another season with Rennes’ Reserves in CFA before being sent back out on loan to Amiens. In the 2005/2006 season, he joined Vannes, and finally got his career off the ground at Angers, where he helped his team get promoted to Ligue 2, scoring 26 goals in the process. His partnership with Alo’o Efoulou worked brilliantly for two years, but the player ignored the advances of Ligue 1 clubs to continue his career in Laval.
