In 2007, Fabrice N'Guessi was a target for many European clubs. Crowned African Junior Champion with the Congo, and Player of the Tournament, this whirlwind winger finally chose to join Stade Rennais FC to begin his European career along with another very promising youngster, Benjamin Moukandjo, from Cameroon. After a solid first season, scoring 4 goals, he was loaned out to Créteil in July 2008 to exploit his potential, but his performances on loan were sub-standard, and he was kicked out of the squad. This forced Rennes to rethink their view of the player’s future at the club. In the Summer of 2009, the Congolese player was expected to return to the Piverdière training ground for pre-season, but failed to contact the club, and never turned up. Pierre Dréossi unilaterally cancelled the player’s contract, who had returned to his native country to play for club and for his national team. He later bounced back with Wydad Casablanca in 2010.
