In June 2017, Stade Rennais secured the signing of Faitout Maouassa from Nancy for 7 Million Euros. The player had been a French international up-to U20 level. The native of Villepinte in Paris ended his first season in the top flight having scored three goals in Ligue 1. Maouassa is capable of playing anywhere on the left flank, and gave Christian Gourcuff multiple tactical options with his very own “Swiss Army Knife”. But after a disappointing season overall, he was progressively left to one side, at first on the bench, then out of the squad altogether under Sabri Lamouchi. In spite of an encouraging pre-season, he was loaned out to Nîmes on 31st August 2018. Upon his return to Rennes in 2019/2020, he became an integral part of the First Team starting line-up during the Autumn, and had a great end to the season. On 20th August 2020, he extended his contract by an additional year until 2022. Between two periods out injured, Maouassa would discover the Champions League in Autumn, but he would ultimately be frozen out with the competition of breakthrough talent Adrien Truffert, who became first choice at left-back. On 30th August 2021, he signed for Bruges in Belgium for 4 Million Euros.
