Algerian-born Fernand Amand arrived in France to play for Northern club ,Roubaix, where he would begin his career in earnest at the end of the 1920s. In 1932, the professional championship was inaugurated, and he signed for neighbours, Olympique Lillois. Attacking midfielder Amand enjoyed a successful first season there, winning the French Championship with Lille. The following season, however, he fell out-of-favour, and played less. Lille were unable to defend their title successfully, finishing fourth. In 1934, the midfielder migrated South, to Nîmes, for a season in the First Division, where his team finished bottom of the table. After a spell of three seasons in the First Division with mid-table Antibes, he moved to Stade Rennais in 1938. Whilst not being an automatic first-choice, he still ended up being a regular in the Rennes starting line-up, and went on to make 30 appearances for the club, scoring two goals in that time, albeit in a more withdrawn midfield role. After a decent 1938/1939 season with the club, he decided to hang up his boots for good.
