|Full name||Afonso Mendes Ribeiro de Figueiredo|
Jan 6, 1993
|Age||28 years old|
Afonso Figueiredo signed for Stade Rennais on 1st July 2016, despite a late bid by Benfica. The left sided defender was voted best player for his position in the Portuguese championship. He fitted the profile of a wing-back which the new boss Christian Gourcuff was looking for. He had competition in the form of the solid Ludovic Baal, and the Portuguese player had relatively few chances to prove himself, and his debut came fully six months after his arrival, in a heavily changed side against Paris Saint Germain. Despite an interesting end to the season, he watched as first Baal, Bensebaini and then Zeffane were preferred over him by Gourcuff, and then Lamouchi. On 29th January 2018, he was loaned to Levski Sofia. Upon his return, he was freed from the last two years of his contract, and signed for Rio Ave on 15th June 2018.
