Stade Rennais were looking for a tried-and-tested player to strengthen their left side of midfield, and attack, and recruited Flavien Tait on 9th July 2019. After beginning his career at Châteauroux, he made the breakthrough in Ligue 1 with Angers. The native of Longjumeau arrived in a deal worth 9 Million Euros. With Rennes, he would discover the Europa League, for which the Red and Blacks achieved qualification by winning the French Cup in 2019. After being sent off in his Rennes debut at Montpellier, he struggled to establish himself in the First Team under Julian Stéphan, and then had his wings clipped by COVID-19, just as his career was finally taking off with the Red and Blacks. The arrival of Bruno Genesio as First-Team Manager in the Spring of 2021 was just the springboard he needed to kickstart his Rennes career, being played in the role of midfield playmaker. His excellent performances during the 2021/2022 season earned him a contract extension, which he signed on 23rd May 2022. He started the 2022/2023 season where he had left off the previous campaign, but an injury would spoil things for him. Alas, he struggled, thereafter, to regain his previous levels of performance, and lost his place in the starting line-up. At the beginning of the 2023/2024 season, he no longer figured in the plans of manager Bruno Genesio, and was released from the final year of his contract with Rennes to sign for Turkish outfit, Samsunspor, as a free agent, on 6th September 2023. He finished his spell with the Red and Blacks with 12 goals and 10 assists in his 129 appearances, of which 90 were made as a member of the starting line-up.
