Florent Petit was a goalkeeper who arrived at Rennes aged just 14. He faced competition from the French-Brazilian Aurélien Hérisson throughout his time at the Stade Rennais Academy, but became first-choice in goal for the generation who won the Gambardella Cup (French FA Youth Cup) in 2008. He was pretty much invincible with an imposing defensive line in front of him, with the likes of Théophile-Catherine, Souprayen, Louhoungou, Le Marchand, M’Vila and Pajot, and signed a one-year professional contract in 2009. But leapfrogged by the prodigious talent of Abdoulaye Diallo in the hierarchy at the club, he only managed to figure once on a Ligue 1 team-sheet. In the Summer of 2010, his contract was not extended, and he didn’t receive any offers elsewhere to bounce back.
