Gaëtan Brusseau hails from the South of France, and was born in Pézenas. This slim player started his professional career at FC Sète, where was developed at their academy setup as of 1982. Having begun in the French Third Division, his technical ability as a full-back enabled him to help his club obtain promotion to the Second Division, where he would go on to play 125 matches and stay until 1987, when he was scouted and recruited by Stade Rennais. In his first season, he was able to claim a regular place in the starting line-up as left-back, and played 33 matches for the club. A player who was blessed with a great athletic capacity, and being a dynamic player, he was to become the season's best discovery in the eyes of his boss Kéruzoré. His second season with Rennes, however, was to prove to be somewhat less prolific in terms of starts. He still made 28 appearances, though. In total, he was to play 61 matches in Rennes' colours, without managing to score a goal. He was to leave the club at the end of that second season. In 1989, he joined CO du Puy in the Third Division where he spent two seasons, and finished his career with a final year at Alès between 1991-1992, when he decided to retire from the professional game.
