Originally from a suburb of Dinan, Gaëtan Caro was a product of the Academy setup at Rennes. Part of the brilliant 1990 generation along with the likes of Camara, Brahimi, M’Vila or Théophile-Catherine, he never enjoyed the same rapid progression. At a time when his team-mates were signing their first professional contracts in the aftermath of winning the Gambardella Cup (French FA Youth Cup) in 2008, he was playing for the Reserve side in CFA (French 4th Division) and didn’t get his first professional contract for one season until 2010. He was captain of the Reserves that were relegated to CFA2 (5th Division), but didn’t do enough to convince his bosses to extend his contract. He was released by the club at the end of his contract.
