On the final day of the Summer transfer window of 2021, Stade Rennais recruited Gaëtan Laborde from fellow Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier. He had already been a transfer target for Rennes whilst at Bordeaux in 2017. The striker signed a four-year contract for the club in a deal worth 15 Million Euros on 31st August 2021.
