Grégory Ursule arrived in Rennes in 1998 from the reserve team of Bordeaux after being developed at Rodez in the company of Olivier Monterrubio. Released by Bordeaux, he represented a free bet for General Manager Gérard Lefillatre. He took part in the entirety of the pre-season programme under Paul Le Guen, but didn’t do enough to convince him. He spent the whole of the 1998/1999 season with the Reserves in CFA (French 4th Division) and left the club as quietly as he had arrived just a year earlier. At Ajaccio, he helped his side to the Division 2 title in 2002, but didn’t take part in their adventure in the top flight. His path crossed that of Stade Rennais once more, when playing for Rodez against a Rennes side who won 2-0 en route for the French Cup Final in 2009.
