Guy Hernas was a striker, hailing from the Somme region in the North of France. He was developed for several years at Abbeville. In August 1953, he joined Amiens, but he would only play for a few months there, still managing to score 10 goals in six appearances. His adventure in Picardie would be short-lived because his playing licence was invalidated, so he had to return to Abbeville before finally turning professional with CO Roubaix-Tourcoing in 1954. After playing a season in the First Division, his team were relegated to the second tier, where he would play for a further four seasons. In total, he scored 50 goals for Roubaix-Tourcoing, of which 19 came during the 1957/1958 season. Stade Rennais snapped him up in 1959, but despite starting as right winger in his opening games for the club, he became a victim of the turnover policy of the First Team Manager of the day, Henri Guérin. As a result, he gradually lost his starting spot to Mahi and Ossay. However, the following season, he demonstrated his versatility in the Rennes attack, and became a permanent fixture in the starting eleven. After three seasons in Brittany, he departed in 1962 to return home to his first club, Abbeville, where he would spend a further six years. He ended his playing career with Wattrelos, still in the North. Sadly, he passed away, aged just 64, on 6th August 1998 in his hometown.
