Hans Babinek was an Austrian-born striker, who started his footballing career in the French League with Cannes in 1933. He would be an undisputed first-choice for his first seasons in Cannes, but his gametime would dwindle as the years passed. Wanting to play more regularly, he signed for Stade Rennais in 1938, having spent five years in the South of France. He had a creditable season in Red and Black, scoring 10 goals in 29 appearances, including a 13-minute hat-trick on matchday 22 of the Second Division 1938/1939 season against Longwy. He went on to take part in the pre-season preparations for the 1939/1940 campaign with Stade Rennais University Club, but the championship was put on hold owing to the outbreak of the Second World War. He left Rennes during that period, and there is no record of whether he continued to play thereafter.
