Henri Gouès was born in Poissy, and began his footballing career with Stade Français, who were freshly promoted to the First Division in 1952. Right-sided defender,he mainly cut his teeth in the Paris region, as he would then go onto to play for CA Paris for a season, before returning to Stade Français between 1954 and 1957. The following two years were spent in the South of France with SO Montpellier, who were also plying their trade in the Second Division, just like his previous two clubs. As an experienced player, he would get a taste of the First Division with Stade Rennais, who he joined in 1959. An efficient defender in the 3-2-5 formation of the day at Rennes, he would become a first-choice defender until December 1963. After more than 120 appearances under his belt, he left Rennes at the end of the 1962/1963 season, and called time on his career as a professional footballer. He continued to play thereafter in amateur football in his birthplace of Poissy. Subsequently, he moved South to live in the Var region of France, where he would end his days. He passed away, aged 86 years old, on 28th September 2019.
