At the end of the Summer transfer window of 2020, Stade Rennais were forced to compensate for the long term injury to Faitout Maouassa obtained just before their first-ever participation in the Champions League. The club opted for Henrique Dalbert on loan from Inter Milan (costing Rennes 2 Million Euros) with a 13 M€ buy-out clause. Struggling to establish himself in Italy after a spectacular season with Nice in 2016/2017, the Brazilian left-back signed for the Breton club on 3rd October 2020. No sooner as he had arrived, that he saw his compatriot Raphinha leave the club, despite the fact that it was he who had convinced the Brazilian to come to Brittany: From the very start, his early performances didn't live up to expectations, and to top it all, in the Champions League fixture at Chelsea, he gave away two penalties and contrived to get himself sent off. From that point onwards, his adventure in Rennes became a stop-start one. With his path to first team action effectively barred by Maouassa and Truffert on the left flank of the Rennes defence, he was unable to make the breakthrough. He ended up with a meagre 18 appearances, or which just 6 starts, and his loan-spell came to an end at the end of the season 2020/2021.
