Jackson Mendy arrived as an unknown quantity at Stade Rennais in 2006. After being spotted playing against Rennes’ Reserves in CFA (French 4th Division), the French-Senegalese defender never managed to make his mark, with the fierce competition coming from the likes of Prince Oniangué, Bira Dembélé and Mathieu Adeniyi. A year later, he bounced back at Paris FC in National (French 3rd Division) before trying his luck in Germany, where he broke through with Hansa Rostock’s Reserve team. Then he joined Simon Pouplin at Freiburg in the 1.Bundesliga, where he made several appearances in the 2009/2010 season. His performances didn’t go unnoticed in Senegal, where he was regularly called up for national team duty.
