Jacques Linarès arrived at the Stade Rennais Academy setup in 1981. He was a defender who had come from Toulouse Fontaines. He would spend the majority of his playing days with Rennes playing for the Reserves. He would never make the breakthrough into First Team football, aside from one brief bit-part appearance in the 1981/1982 season. He came on as a substitute for Tischner at the end of a match between Rennes and Dunkerque on 8th May 1982 for the only minutes he would have in a Rennes shirt as a professional. In 1985, he moved on to St Dizier, with whom he would achieve promotion to the Second Division. He would spend two seasons there before joining VOC Vannetais in the Third Division, where he would play out the final seasons of this career between 1987-1991.
