Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik was the first Summer signing in 2010. Signed for 2.5 Million Euros from Le Havre, this central defender, capable of playing at full-back was presented as a future star at the club. After finding it tough to get a game with the likes of Fanni, Mangane and Apam, he was very much in the line of fire from Manager Antonetti in pre-season. As result of hard work, he forced his way rapidly back into the first eleven with the competitors missing through injury. With excellent performances each time, the French-Cameroon player earned his stripes definitively when Fanni left for Marseille at the end of the year. When Rennes hosted Valenciennes in December, Kana-Biyik scored his first Rennes goal from a corner by Lemoine, who was making his comeback. After two excellent seasons, he started to stagnate as of the 2012/2013 season. After the loss to Guingamp in the 2014 French Cup Final, he got involved in a heated discussion with supporters, and was punished by the club, for whom he was surplus to requirements in the 2014/2015 season. After missing half the season, he joined Toulouse on a free transfer in January 2015.
