Jean-Claude Darcheville signed for Stade Rennais in 1995 after impressing Manager Le Milinaire during a trial. This robust, powerful and pacy striker, despite his diminutive stature, started playing football in his native Guyana, with Sinnamary. In his first season, “Darche” made 10 appearances, totalling 304 minutes of game-time, and scored his first goal on his first start at Auxerre. In the 1996/1997 season, Colleu only gave him minimal opportunities with the strong competition from the likes of Wiltord, Guivarc’h, André and Johnston. As a result, he only managed 11 games, and finally scored his first home goal against Bastia on the last day of the season. In the 1997/1998 season, he was the strike partner of Goussé and became a key player in the squad (27 matches, 3 goals), despite a family drama which affected him greatly in the winter months. With the arrival of Le Guen as Manager, and with Bardon and Nonda in attack, “Gronaldo” was loaned for a season to Nottingham Forest, before joining Lorient in Division 2 in 1999.
