In 1997, Jean-Félix Dorothée arrived at Stade Rennais FC on his 16th birthday after a spell at the National Football Centre in Clairfontaine. Developed as a midfielder, he could also be used in all positions on the right flank. In the 1999/2000 season, Le Guen quickly brought him in to the First Team squad, mainly as backup for the position of right-back. When Réveillère was absent in September, the native of Blanc-Mesnil made his first appearance against Monaco in a 2-1 win in place of Bigné, then a second substitute’s appearance in the following match, a 0-3 defeat against Nantes. His run in the First Team ended there, despite being crowned U18 European Champion in 2000 alongside Rennes players Pelé and Danic, as well as the promising Mexès and Cissé. After two seasons where he played exclusively with the Reserves in CFA (French 4th Division), he left Rennes to join Valencia, much to the surprise of everyone else, in 2002 Still a little bit naïve for Spanish football, ”JFD” only managed to play one single match in three seasons.
