Born in the West of Brittany in the Finistère region, Jean Le Borgne was developed at AS Brestoise in the early 1950s. A talented left winger, he would only get to experience one season as a professional footballer, when he signed for Stade Rennais in 1953. Having made his debut in the Odorico Cup, making two appearances, he would only see action in three (consecutive) league matches (matchdays 13-15), scoring his solitary goal in Rennes colours as a professional on 8th November 1953, in the 80th minute of a 2-0 victory for Rennes over CA Paris. He would leave the club at the end of the 1953/1954 season, before returning to his first club, AS Brestoise, where he would spend ten seasons, becoming First Team Captain at the club, whilst working during the week as a telecommunications engineer.
