Born in Swansea, in South Wales, Joe Rodon started his footballing development, aged 7, with his hometown club: Swansea City. Having spent a few seasons in the Reserves, he would be loaned out for 6 months to Cheltenham Town in the League 2 (English Fourth Division) between January and June 2018. He then returned to his club, where he quickly made the breakthrough into First Team football, in the starting line-up in the Championship (English Second Division), where he would be a regular for two seasons. An agile and solid defender, he caught the eye of Tottenham, who signed him for 11 Million Euros in October 2020. With lots of competition for a spot in the first team, he would get little game-time with Spurs, amassing a mere 20-odd matches in two years. Although he was starved of match practice at Spurs, he would still become a regular in the Welsh national team since August 2019, having played for the Welsh U21s between 2016 and 2018. On 1st August 2022, he signed on loan with Stade Rennais (against whom he had appeared for Tottenham in the Europa Conference League in September 2021), with a buyout clause of 20 Million Euros. After a difficult start to the season, he scored his only goal for Rennes against Brest on 31st August 2022, and became a reliable centre-back in the Autumn 2022. After the return from long-term injury of Warmed Omari at the beginning of 2023, he was relegated in the hierarchy, and disappeared from the rotation altogether until the last two away matches, where he was parachuted in to replace Arthur Theate at the last minute, at Ajaccio and Brest, helping his side to qualify for Europa League.
